Texas Medicaid

The rules about Medicaid eligibility in Texas are about to change. If you are approaching the time when you will need and be eligible for Medicaid, you should get in a position to be able to apply before the end of the year to avoid the more stringent rules that are in the pipeline. One of these rules involves the possible loss of your family home to the state after you die. This rule will not go into effect until next year, so apply this year if possible.

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has released the 2005 federal guidelines for how much money the spouses of institutionalized Medicaid recipients may keep, as well as changes with Medicare premiums and co-payments. These become effective January 1, 2005.
Texas Medicaid

Maximum PRA: $95,100
Minimum PRA: $19,020
Max. Protected Spousal Income: $2,377.50
(I am not sure if Texas will utilize the 50 cents, or as some states choose, just round up or down to a whole dollar amount)

(For now, there is no new "gifting factor" for Texas.)
Part B Medicare premium:
(deducted from Soc. Sec. check)
$78.20/mo
Daily Part A co-insurance payment for days 21 thru 100 in a skilled nursing facility: $114.00/day
Income maximum for the Medicaid applicant, currently $1,737. Click here to preview the proposed new Medicaid Rules in Texas for 2005
